I was lazy, however, and split the hats to two layers around row 30. Then I could finish the two layers separately much faster than I could knit the two layers simultaneously. My daughter loves the hat. She received it at college yesterday. I got to this point and I was wondering the same thing myself. For anyone who came from the Ravelry page, they might not look at the comments to find the solution. It would help for those who don't know that there are comments at the bottom. Just a suggestion!

Otherwise, this hat is adorable! I knitted it on size 7 needles because from the other examples it looked too bulky. I used 80%acrylic and 20%wool yarn and it's much smoother than a traditional wool.

Great design! The last hat pattern I knit was double knit and you essentially just followed the color from the previous row. This one ignores the color on the previous row, thus I'm trying to make it more complicated then it really is. One thing though is if the pattern goes Method 2,3,2, and 4 is the middle should it not reverse to 2,3,2 but the pattern states 2,3,1??? On method 3 do you slip the stitches to get the two CC colors next to each other? Somewhat similar to how you would decrease?? Sorry I'm new to double knitting and just can't grasp this concept. This is the perfect hat for my boyfriend who works in the film industry so I'm trying to understand it so I can knit it for him for Christmas. What I mean by ...Sorry about the confusion, Sarah. What I mean by alternating is that they alternate in pairs. In order for the design to be reversible, the two layers are done in opposite colors. So the first stitch is MC, which means the second is CC. Those two work as an alternating pair. So basically, there's two pairs you could have: either 1st st - MC 2nd CC, or 1st CC - 2nd MC. Each pair has to include a MC and a CC, but sometimes placing different pairs together (to make the image) ends up setting 2 MCs or 2 CCs (each from a different pair) next to each other.

Does that make any sense?bdraegerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03640828685383474692noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25646761.post-58266279199143541722008-11-30T13:28:00.000-06:002008-11-30T13:28:00.000-06:00I stumbled across your hat pattern and love it, I'...I stumbled across your hat pattern and love it, I'm trying to knit it for my brother. I read the comments and I still don't get the instructions for methods 3 and 4. If each stitch is alternating MC, and CC how can I knit method 3 k1 MC, p1 CC, k1 CC, p1 MC? Same with method 4. The colors on the needles should be alternating, right? I'm still new at the double knitting thing so perhaps the directions are clearer to a more experienced knitter. Is it one of the methods (color patterns)? I'm not sure what you mean by steps three and four.

If it's the methods you're talking about, 3 and 4 just show how to make the color combinations work with the correct color on each side. Method three alternates MC and CC on the front. Each pair of stitches creates two layers of one stitch. The first stitch in the pair is knit in whatever color you need to show up on the outer layer, and the second stitch (inner layer) is purled with whatever color the first stitch isn't. (Making sure you bring both colors to the front for each of your purls and both colors to the back for each of your knits.) The fourth method works the same pair of stitches six times, and then the opposite pair twice, which creates the 6 MC 2 CC pattern on the outer layer.

Is this helpful, or am I completely not understanding what's confusing?bdraegerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03640828685383474692noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25646761.post-66288399244098473772008-10-22T00:38:00.000-05:002008-10-22T00:38:00.000-05:00I'm trying to make this hat for my boyfriend but I...I'm trying to make this hat for my boyfriend but I just can't seem to get it right. Does that make sense?

Another way of saying it... for the first round, knit into the front of the stitch with the main color, but keep the old loop on the left needle (instead of sliding it off) and then knit into the back of the old loop with the contrast color.

So it's all knit stitches on the first row, and there's an increase in every cast on stitch.

Let me know if that helps!

(The videos are probably helpful in understanding how to work the rest of the hat, but I don't know if I did the cast on the same way they did.)bdraegerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03640828685383474692noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25646761.post-18048557232420161332008-01-30T01:15:00.000-06:002008-01-30T01:15:00.000-06:00Hi, I love the hat.
